#97028 Antique Danish Elmwood and Mahogany Empire Bureau with Secretary Hutch, Circa 1810 SOLD

$12,400

A very rare and spectacular Danish Cylinder Bureau in elm with inlays in contrasting woods. This Empire period piece offers interest from the fretted gallery to the demi-lune inlay dressing the base of the case. The variety of woods and quality of the inlays on the doors and drawer fronts, as well as the restraint in the decoration, are exemplar precursors to the Scandinavian style we know today. The family silhouette portraits are unusual and engaging, while the braided inlay of contrasting wood covering the end grain of the solid elm sides offer a wonderful tactile experience. This piece has lived a long and storied life and has been restored so the elm truly glows.
